Performer
Sanam Tahmasebi is an interdisciplinary maker, composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Born in Tehran and based in the Netherlands, she works across music theatre, dance, film and installation, composing with voice, instruments, electronics and the body. Her musical language draws on Persian musical memory, jazz, improvisation and electroacoustic sound. She studied music across Iran, Italy, the Netherlands and the U.S.
Coming from composition, she approaches performance through rhythm, listening, and the relationship between sound and body. She has collaborated with Het Houten Huis and Club Guy & Roni, and performed at festivals including Oerol, Gaudeamus and Into the Great Wide Open.
She is currently developing Light Has Teeth within the Station Noord maker trajectory, in co-production with Explore the North. At Plein Theater, she presents a short solo extract from the first chapter of this larger work in development. Moving between song, noise, breath and memory, the work follows a voice trying to remain present, and a freedom that arrives with gravity.
