Dancer
We began this artistic research by looking at self-discipline and the pressure to
conform to constantly changing expectations. Along the way, we found ourselves
asking more personal questions: When does discipline become punishment?
When does a value that gives us meaning begin to limit us? And how do we
recognise the moment when something that once helped us starts to harm us?
We don’t have clear answers.
That is why we are making this work.
A cage.
22 metal tubes.
A body moving through space.
Sound responding to every step.
Make No False Friends – freer than ever without consequence? explores the fragile
space between freedom and control, discipline and desire, resistance and surrender.
Over the past period, we have been researching, experimenting, building,
questioning, and developing the first elements of this work together with other artists
and collaborators.
Now, we want to take it to the next level.
In the coming year, we want to turn this research into a larger-scale production
making the installation work, developing the performance, and bringing together a
larger team of artists and collaborators to create the full work.
But behind every production are people: performers, musicians, designers,
technicians, makers, and other artists who invest their time, energy, skills, and
imagination.
We want to support these people fairly.
Your donation directly helps us pay the artists and team involved in the project. It
gives us the time and space to research, experiment, take risks, and develop this
work into the production we envision.
Supporting us means supporting artists making independent work, taking risks,
asking difficult questions, and creating spaces for shared experiences.
Help us take this project further.
Help us support the people behind it.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us bring this work into the world.
